Yesterday while looking for one thing I found some scanned Santa images I had from years ago. Just about as many years ago Dixie, an old Ebay buddy (Ebay use to be fun and a meeting place for many creative people who joined 'groups' that were similiar to chat rooms), was kind enough to send me a box filled with these shirting samples that she thought I would appreciate. Appreciate them I did but never used them until yesterday. This small 4x6" card will be offered for sale next week at the art/craft show...there are 6 more in line to be hand stitched while sitting watching movies or listening to music. I can't think of a better way to spend time off from the day job. Well, except - maybe - finishing the surface design on those scarves I also started yesterday....and....spending alone time with Steve....and....working on a pastel painting.....sweet.

Child's Play

I posted this awhile back after I painted it. Last night I finished all the handstitching on it (if you click on the photo it will get large and you can see more detail). I am very satisfied with its funky playfulness. I think I'm going to do some more folk arty type of work in the future and already have some thoughts spinning around.
Good Monday all.

Departure

Yesterday I wanted to try something different from the same 'ole, same 'ole so I took a piece of cotton painted it with dye print paste, cooked it by the woodstove, rinsed it out, didn't like how washed out the colors looked and then proceeded to overpaint the design. I like the simplicity of this and the colors. I am handstitiching it (it's about 8x10" so this is do-able). If you click on the photo is will get LARGE and you can see some of the stitching details. I hope to do more of these in the future. Feels a bit folk arty, doesn't it?

Into the LIght

Once you start using cloth you've dyed, discharged, printed, etc yourself it's feels odd to use commercial designer fabrics. With that in mind I do have to say that I like the funky, folk art feel of this piece. The blue beads on the bottom are these hand thrown clay beads that look like a child made them (and possibly did!). These beads are another treasure found in my recent yard sale score on a whole box of beads.

FAMA

A cairns motif that morphed into a Garden of Eden image.....FAMA....Folk Art Modern Abstract. These pieces I'm doing may not have the sophistication of altered cloth art that features paints, foils, printing and inks but - darn - I like doing these. There's something about them that reaches deep down inside me....getting to the roots of something.
