Awhile back I painted on a design on a screen using thickened dyes. I let it dry on the screen and then pulled soda ash paste across the screen. This technique is called desconstructive screen printing. The mother of this technique is Kerr Grabowski (please click on her name to see some fabulous work!). Last night I finished all the hand stitching, etc on the piece. This is a very happy piece and reminds me of crop circles or labyrinths or ameobas. Take your pick!

Child's Play

I posted this awhile back after I painted it. Last night I finished all the handstitching on it (if you click on the photo it will get large and you can see more detail). I am very satisfied with its funky playfulness. I think I'm going to do some more folk arty type of work in the future and already have some thoughts spinning around.

I have been so busy this past week getting many pieces ready for the Danforth Museum of Art gift shop (yes, they want more) I haven't had time to blog post. This piece is cloth that I deconstructive screen printed and am now hand stitching. I was going to add more layers of dye but there was something about the simple nature of the first printing that made me leave it be. I really admire artists that are able to render their visions in works that are clean in design. Of course I also admire artists whose work is so filled with detail and stuff going on that it draws you in to keep looking and looking. Heck, I am an 'art harlot'...I love it all....
