Growth Tree

This piece was done completely intuitively last night and early this morning. It tells me that we are free to create as the spirit moves us. If I want a Tree Lady to have painted circles for hair - she can have them! If I want to stick wooden buttons on a piece because they tell me they need to be there - I'm going for it! Oddly colored body parts - no problem! Can we all spell F-R-E-E-D-O-M? If you remember the Richie Havens song feel free to add the melody.

Wired Up

Nothing new to post because I am blocked, stumped, at a standstill - and everything else descriptive of feeling drained with my imagination on vacation. This is a piece I did about 4 years ago when I was doing art quilting assemblages. I remember when I was painting the canvas that is the background of this piece. It just flowed and became what it is without a lot of thought. Those times when our hands are driven by another force are the best, aren't they?

Forgot the fountain of youth - I'd like to bottle creative adrenaline and drink from it when necessary!

Odd Things Happen Late At Night

Some of most interesting (creative?) work happens late at night. Of course the need for sleep often gets in the way. But those times when I'm wide awake and full of energy are some of my most pleasurable. Last night at about 11:00 pm I created this and I like it as much in the daylight as I did last night (sometimes these later night venures don't look as promising in the daylight). Now to drop free motion stitching into it.....maybe some beads....maybe some different textured threads....cross your fingers for me.....

Evolution

Work continues on the log cabin inspired piece created exclusively from my hand dyed fabric. The colors in this piece are soothing to me and, while some people might think of them as somber, I find them so organic they are calming.

As many of us do, as I'm working on one piece my brain is already envisioning another piece. Driving to and from work is a great time for me to spend designing in my head (much more productive than thinking about work tasks that you get paid to perform, don't you think?). I am trying to mind design a large piece that incorporates imagery. I don't like to work large so we'll see how this ends up being translated from the mind to the fabric. If nothing else it will be a great exercise in stretching my creativity.
