I'm continuing work on this piece. I think I'm going to start stitching it this evening....free motion quilting imitating veins in a leaf.....

Moon Dance

Last night there was a full moon and the stars were brilliant. It was the 3 C's - cold, crisp and clear....beautiful...

Cloth with matte gelled tissue paper, painted and altered with alcohol, free motion quilting, hand embroidered accents.

Climb Every Mountain

Painted this on cloth yesterday. Needs some enhancement, wouldn't you say? Maybe some free motion stitching? Some hand work? Perhaps some threads? Maybe a vintage sequin or two up in the sky? I see lots of French Knots dropped in the bottom field....I see swirling wind in the sky...anything thing you see?

Spring is Emerging

Progressing....I have decided not to cut up the whole cloth....this is a closeup of the bottom portion with added foiling and the start of some free motion quilting - if you click on the photo it will get very large and you can see a lot of the details....so far, so good....

You know what I need to do? I need to acknowledge Dixie of North Dixie Designs http://northdixiedesigns.blogspot.com/ for giving me a tutorial on the wonders of acrylic paints altered with isopropyl alcohol. Dixie is a great folk artist who creates these amazing dolls but Dixie's paintings are my personal favorite. So much so that I bought one she did of Little Red Riding Hood to give to someone but ended up keeping it for myself (yes selfish...but we all need to gift ourselves once in awhile!). Anyhoo, many months ago Dixie mentioned something about paint and alcohol on a message board we both belong to. I was intrigued and asked her for more info...then I figured why couldn't I do this on fabric....and so the experiments began. Thank you, Dixie!

Machine Work - Hand Work

My sewing machine and I were tight yesterday! This is a section showing the free motioned, background stitching on this painted piece - that, by the way, measures 17x14" (hip, hip hooray - well into the double digits!). If you click on the photo it will enlarge and you can see all the details.

Now I'm hand stitching accents on the flora. I wanted to finish this today but that's not going to happen. The hand embroidery is going to take hours that I can't give! We're going to friends for the afternoon. Would it be rude to bring along hand sewing? Talking and stitching....that works for me.....

Sunday Afternoon

Kathy asked in a previous comment how this was made. It is sheer fabric attached to a frame then matte medium was applied to both the front and back. When that dried I went to work with acrylic paints, dynaflow, rubbing alcohol and water. Then I created folds that I stitched together. Now the free motion quilting is progressing with more to be done. This is very sensuous when seen in person. I think I will try to create more of these pieces and submit them to a gallery for their consideration. I doubt they'll have anything similiar.
