There is a movement right now in the SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Association) group asking for exhibition venues for small art pieces. I do have to laugh a bit since most of the artists in the group are considering 12x12" - 24x24" small. That is large for me! One person remarked that art smaller than these sizes could be thought of as doodling. Doodling? Are my 4x6" pieces doodling? What do you think? What are your thoughts on art and size? Does size make a difference in regards to artistic value?
I'm pedaling as fast as I can to get this piece finished. I need to secure all those purple-pinkish rod beads (just sprinkled them in order to take this photo) and then bind the edges. It needs to be in the SAQA trunk show coordinator's hands by 3/31. No need to panic - plenty of time for UPS next day air!
Does this prove Darwin's theory? The piece in the blog entry below adapted itself into this when I added some colors to the piece below that made it NOT able to live in my art world (sorry, forgive my juvenile attempt at allegory). Anyhoo....I need to add more beading and ribbon embroidery and then it WILL be the 12x12" piece for the SAQA trunk show and art auction.
I figured it out....making these oh-so-charmingly small ATC's is helping me avoid other art commitments I have made. This weekend I will begin work on the SAQA trunk piece and another collage I would like to do for Virginia's Spiegel's American Cancer Society benefit auction. .jpg)

I love thistles. My husband laughs and calls them weeds but then tells me the story of how they warned the Scotts years ago that the Romans were invading. Apparently the Roman army was trying to sneak up and perform conquering on some Scottish troops but they became enmeshed in a field of thistles and the Roman cries of pain alerted the Scotts. All this from a weed. Nature works in mysterious ways.
