Growth

Today is the last day of the Collage Mania Art Auction to benefit the American Cancer Society. Over $8,000 was raised yesterday (yes, it was!!!). About the piece above...the flowers are bizarre and - for sure - unexpected but I like them and they're staying! I need to add some of the tall leaf growth on the left side, bind it and then call it a day. This has become one of my favorite pieces (of course they all are as I do them - afterwards I tend to get critical). For my next larger piece I have images of carnivals circling around my brain.....ferris wheels, cotton candy, merry-go-rounds......Americana.....can you see and feel it?

On another note....I worked on this piece a bit last night and would love some thoughts on which direction I should take with it. I could keep it sedate and not incredibly unusual by continuing with the top piece OR I could collage in these funky flowers with roots (keeping with the theme of growth) for an unexpected twist. Either way more embroidery will be added to drop in more pops of color. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Cosmic Static

The photo isn't so great because this finished piece is under glass in a clip frame. It began life as the gelatin printed monotype cloth in the post below. I added free motion quilting, hand stitching, dyed cheesecloth and rusted silk organza then I secured it all to the back board of the clip frame. This is the piece I will bring to the Newburgh/Cornwall Historical Society for their benefit art auction next weekend. I already saw all the lovely landscapes and still life paintings that have been donated. I don't remember seeing anything like this - although there was one very cool assemblage that I fell in love with.

On another note, apparently the Stone House Window collage at the top part of this blog is pictured in the new issue of Cloth, Paper, Scissors. I was told there is an article about Virginia Spiegel's benefit auction for the American Cancer Society and this piece is one of the collages featured.
